FSV Frankfurt loses main derby clearly outnumbered
After the 1:1 draw against TSV Steinbach Haiger in the previous league opener, head coach Tim Görner's team traveled to Offenbach this Saturday afternoon for the small Main derby against the Kickers. The Black & Blues were able to secure their first three points with a win at Bieberer Berg. Compared to the last match against Steinbach Haiger, FSV started with Henry Bremer in goal, Ben-Luca Fisher was also in today's starting line-up, replacing Tobias Peitz.
The opening minutes were characterized by mutual pressing. In the seventh minute of the match, striker Lucas Hermes crossed from the right side of the pitch towards the Offenbach penalty area and played the ball to Cas Peters. However, the Dutchman was unable to get hold of the ball, meaning that the Kickers claimed the ball and switched into transition mode. Ex-Frankfurt player Onur Ünlücifci shot a little later from around 25 meters at the goal of his former colleague Henry Bremer, who cleared for the first Offenbach corner. Shortly afterwards, the FSV defense developed a restless style of play, so that the OFC wanted to take advantage of the Black & Blue's misplaced passes to take the lead. However, Bremer was on hand in time to clear the ball out of the danger zone and the game became more centralized. A few minutes later, Frankfurt attempted another counter-attack after Hermes again played the ball to a teammate, this time to the free-standing Jan-Erik Eichhorn, who took a shot from in front of the penalty area line and only ended up hitting the post. The Görner team continued to play with a broad chest and did not make it easy for Christian Neidhart's team. In the 22nd minute, Hermes crossed again into the opposition penalty area and Hassan Mourad's subsequent header just missed the target. Five minutes later, Peters tried to open the scoring with a long-range shot from around 20 meters, but OFC keeper Johannes Brinkies easily caught the ball with his hands. Offenbach showed their mettle again in the final 15 minutes of the first half, with Ron Berlinski receiving the ball in the FSV penalty area in the 37th minute and shooting over Bremer's goal. Five minutes later, OFC attacked again up front, Ünlücifci played the ball across to Mustafa, who then scored the opening goal for the Kickers. Shortly before the break, the hosts pushed to extend their lead, but failed to do so and the Black & Blues went into the break trailing by one goal, which came just before the end of the half.
Bornheim started the game with renewed courage and wanted to equalize in time. However, OFC did not stop playing soccer, continued to press and won corner after corner after good defending from Lukas Gottwalt. In the 53rd minute, FSV came close with a long-range shot by Ben-Luca Fisher, but in the end the ball just missed the right goalpost. In the final 30 minutes of the second half, Frankfurt found it much more difficult to get into the opposition penalty area and struggled to find an equalizer. The next setback came in the 70th minute: After a foul by Giorgio Del Vecchio, who had already been cautioned with a yellow card ten minutes earlier, the midfielder left the pitch with a yellow-red card. FSV were therefore outnumbered in the final phase. Less than five minutes after Del Vecchio left the pitch, Kickers Offenbach scored the goal the home fans had been waiting for to extend their lead to 2-0. Marc Wachs' shot rebounded off FSV defender Tim Weißmann, who could only watch as the ball rolled behind the goal line. Three minutes later, in the 76th minute, substitute Stephan Mensah fired the ball into the visitors' goal with full force to make it 3:0 for the home side. As if that wasn't enough, substitute Dimitrij Nazarov finally put the lid on the game with his brace in the 81st and 84th minutes, increasing Bornheim's deficit to four and five goals respectively. FSV at least tried to score a consolation goal in the final minutes, but the air was finally gone and referee Luca Schiliró blew the final whistle on time.
FSV Frankfurt lost the small Main derby at Offenbacher Kickers by a clear 0:5 and are in 16th place in the table after matchday 2. Before the next away game in the regional league at SC Freiburg II, which will take place on Sunday, August 11 at 2 p.m. in the Dreisamstadion, Bornheim will host Eintracht Frankfurt for their anniversary game next Wednesday, August 7 at 6 p.m. in the PSD Bank Arena.
