A Large Soccer Family With a Long History
We are proud of the long tradition of our FSV. Since the “heroes of the first hour,” a group of 16 Frankfurt boys, mostly from the petit bourgeoisie, founded the Soccer-Sports Association Frankfurt in 1899, we now look back on a club history of over 120 years with many highlights, but also difficult times.
Of course, not least among the pleasant moments in our history are the two promotions, from the Oberliga Hessen to the 2nd Bundesliga, as well as the subsequent retention of the league position. After tough years in the Hessian football association, our senior team made the leap back into professional football, spending eight years in the Bundesliga second tier. And when asked about the reasons for the rapid ascent today, every Bornheimer will most likely point to a special aspect of our club, of which we can be very proud: It was and still is our “passion” for FSV that was and is foremost. Now it’s time to start anew in the Regionalliga.
It Connects People From Various Social Backgrounds and Ethnic Origins.
The team as well as the entire environment are characterized by their enormous cohesion and pronounced “FSV Spirit.” A familial atmosphere, open communication between club management, senior team, and youth department, proximity to the licensed players enable a harmonious coexistence (“everyone knows everyone”), and it brings together people from various social backgrounds and ethnic origins under the “schwarz-blauen” colors of the club.
In addition, there is the support of the numerous fans and patrons of our FSV, who have supported the team at FSV stadium games over the years and made the “Miracle of Bernem” come true in recent years.
Thus, the “FSV family” has stood together in difficult as well as good times. And that is precisely an important point that may set us apart from other clubs. With the knowledge of our long tradition, the feeling of the great “FSV Family” should also be embodied and lived in the junior area in the future. Only then can we compensate for our limited resources compared to our competitors and compete in the rivalry.
FSV Frankfurt plays its home games in the PSD Bank Arena. Since February 2018, the PSD Bank Hessen-Thuringia has been the namesake of the stadium on Bornheimer Hang.
In July 2006, Frankfurter Volksbank e.G. took over the naming rights to Frankfurt’s second largest stadium. After the three sides of the stadium (north, south and counter stand) were renovated, the home of the Black and Blues was reopened after a renovation phase of almost a year and a half on July 23, 2009 with a friendly match against Werder Bremen and a fantastic show. The second part of the renovation, the reconstruction of the main stand, took place from January 2012 while the game was still running. After less than a year of construction work, the new main stand for the game became available to spectators for the first time on November 24, 2012, for the game between FSV Frankfurt and 1. FC Kaiserslautern. Since then, FSV Frankfurt has had a venue that offers the most modern second division standards with ten boxes, a business area for over 500 VIP guests and high-quality facilities for players and all employees on match days.
The 12,542 spectator seats are divided into approx. 4,139 seats (all covered, blocks A to E and H to M), of which around 690 are comfortable and padded seats in the VIP area (including 110 box seats), and 8,367 standing places (all uncovered, blocks F , G, N and O). Blocks H (counter stand seating) and F and G (standing room) are available for visiting fans.
