Home win at the end of the season
Matchday 34 of the 2023/2024 Regionalliga Südwest season came to an end today, Saturday, with FSV Frankfurt having already secured their place in the league last Saturday after a 1-0 away win at TSG Hoffenheim U23. Despite being certain of remaining in the fourth division, head coach Tim Görner's team wanted to keep the points on the Bornheimer Hang against today's opponents, SG Barockstadt Fulda-Lehnerz, and say goodbye to the fans with a win going into the summer break.
Before the match, Vice-President Stephan Siegler and Managing Director Patrick Spengler thanked FSV Frankfurt's volunteers for their commitment in front of the PSD Bank Arena crowd. Shortly after the teams entered the pitch, the traditional club bid farewell to Luca Schlax, Oluwabori Falaye, Lukas Hupfauf, Elias Oubella, Fabian Messina, Amid Khan Agha, Ajet Grajcevci and Miguel Costa. Assistant coach Nils Schick and athletics coach Madunna Chidi Maduwuihe were also given an official send-off on the pitch. The game: Compared to the last match in Hoffenheim, Lukas Hupfauf, Oluwabori Falaye and Luca Schlax played from the start. Both teams showed from the kick-off that they wanted to say goodbye to their fans with a win going into the summer break. However, Bornheim got off to a more committed start and the spectators in the overcast PSD Bank Arena were treated to a thrilling game of football in the opening minutes. In the 20th minute of the match, the visitors from Fulda attacked and shot at Henry Bremer's goal. The ball landed on the post and was shortly afterwards on the goal line, but the linesman raised the offside flag so that there was no further danger. As time went on, the East Hessians became more active in the Black & Blue's penalty area, putting the Görner team's defence under pressure and earning several corners, which, however, did not result in a goal for the visitors. Malik McLemore replaced Falaye in the 34th minute, as the latter was injured in a tackle and was unable to continue. A short time later, Onur Ünlücifci received the ball during an attack from the left and hammered home from the edge of the box to make it 1:0. Frankfurt's jubilation lasted a little longer as three minutes later, in the 40th minute, substitute McLemore made it 2:0 after he received the ball in the visitors' penalty area and slotted home from close range. Shortly before half-time, Barockstadt received the next corner and, after a brief clearing by the home side, shot at the Bornheim goal from distance. Bremer saved with his hand and cleared for another corner kick, which again came to nothing. After two minutes of stoppage time, both teams went into the break with the score at 2-0.
Two minutes after the restart, McLemore extended the lead to 3:0 with his brace. The Bornheim express continued to roll, and shortly afterwards Boutakhrit won a corner kick after his low shot. Head coach Sedat Gören's visiting team tried to at least score the equaliser despite being behind and created several attacking opportunities. However, FSV held firm and went into direct tackles, which occasionally led to interruptions in play. From the 60th minute onwards, after the game had calmed down a little on the pitch, SGB looked for the gap, but the South Hessians covered well and continued to hold out. FSV also shone at defensive set-pieces after Bremer easily caught the ball from a Fulda free-kick from the right-hand side of the penalty area. Frankfurt continued to press up front and were not content with the 3:0 lead, but the legs of Barockstadt goalkeeper Zapico Lopez prevented McLemore's hat-trick in the 69th minute. At the back, Bornheim continued to work with concentration in their own defence and prevented Fulda from scoring the final goal. In the 84th minute, Ünlücifci completed his brace with a powerful shot that landed under the crossbar to make it 4:0. McLemore's hat-trick was denied as the striker received a pass shortly before the final whistle and failed to get the ball right, which ultimately rolled out of play. Referee Marius Ulbrich blew his whistle immediately after the 90th minute and brought the final duel of the Bornheim team to an end, who were more than happy about this high and deserved victory.
FSV Frankfurt wins 4:0 against Barockstadt Fulda-Lehnerz in the last game of the 2023/2024 season and goes into the summer break with a win. Thanks to the home win and the final scores of the other matches, the Görner team finishes the season in ninth place in the table with 13 wins, nine draws and twelve defeats and 48 points. In the coming season, we look forward to an eventful Regionalliga Südwest, with many goals for the Bornheim team and continued support from the loyal black and blue supporters.
