Saturday against Mainz II: Will the unbeaten streak be extended?
Matchday 10: 1.FSV Mainz 05 U23
After last weekend’s last-minute win at Stuttgarter Kickers, FSV Frankfurt will host the U23 team of 1.FSV Mainz 05 at home in the PSD Bank Arena this Saturday. The Bornheim side are currently unbeaten in seven league games in a row, are in second place in the table and can take the top spot in the Southwest Regional Football League with a home win.
Mainz’s second team has now been playing in Germany’s fourth-highest league for eight years. Previously, the U23s played in the third division for three consecutive years until the Nullfünfer had to make the move to the regional league in 2017. In the regional league, Mainz have finished in single figures in all but two seasons. Mainz “Zwo” last lost to FSV Frankfurt in 2022 in a 2:1 away defeat on the Bornheimer Hang.
Mainz 05 II started the new season with a 3:0 home win against Hessen Kassel. This was followed by three consecutive goalless draws. After two defeats in a row, the Mainz youngsters recently won both home games against Kickers Offenbach 4:2 and against Göppinger SV 2:1. The team of head coach Benjamin Hoffmann, who has been in office since January 2024, is currently sixth in the table with 15 points.
