FSV Frankfurt deservedly defeats the league leaders!
In today's match against Stuttgarter Kickers, FSV Frankfurt welcomed the current league leaders to the Bornheimer Hang on match day 30 of the Regionalliga Südwest. FSV, who are currently in the midst of a relegation battle, were without Jihad Boutakhrit and Cas Peters in today's top-of-the-table clash. Compared to the previous 2:0 away win at TSV Steinbach Haiger, Timo Hildmann was also missing from the squad due to injury. With a home win, Bornheim could climb up to eleventh place in the table. Despite the circumstances of the squad and the current situation in the table, it was clear to everyone that points had to be scored today!
FSV did not hide at all and put the league leaders under pressure right from the opening minutes. This paid off in the fifth minute of the game when Onur Ünlücifci hammered the ball into the opposition goal from a good 20 metres. Kickers goalkeeper Felix Dornebusch was standing too far away from his own goal, and the Frankfurt midfielder took full advantage of the opportunity. However, the Swabians did not let the early deficit affect them and launched their first counter-attacks. However, the Black & Blue's defence stood very well at the back, clearing the ball played in and not allowing any dangerous chances. The spectators in the PSD Bank Arena saw a really motivated Frankfurt team on the pitch, especially due to their counter-attacks towards the Stuttgart goal. Ünlücifci tried to score his brace in the 20th minute, shooting at the Kickers goal from the opponent's sixteen, but goalkeeper Dornebusch made a timely save and cleared for a corner. Many corners for both teams were a big part of the first half, but the corner kicks brought no added value for either team. In the 34th minute, referee Haris Kresser decided to award FSV a free-kick after a foul on goalscorer Ünlücifci. The South Hesse number ten then converted the ball into the left corner to give head coach Tim Görner's team a 2:0 lead. Once again, Stuttgart's Dornebusch had no chance of clearing the ball. The promoted team and league leaders from Baden-Württemberg showed no assertiveness in the first half, had no dangerous goalscoring opportunities and played without concentration in some situations. Shortly before half-time, an opponent from Stuttgart touched FSV captain Noah Awassi so heavily when he jumped that the defender had to be treated for a short time and left the pitch prematurely, but continued to play shortly afterwards. After two minutes of stoppage time, both teams went into half-time with a deserved 2:0 lead for Frankfurt.
Immediately after the kick-off for the second half, FSV Frankfurt once again went on the offensive and Ünlücifci was not satisfied with his brace, netting in the 47th minute of the match after his low finish on the edge of the penalty area into the shallow right-hand corner to make it 3:0. The ‘FSV train’ was unstoppable in this top duel, the Görner team continued to counterattack diligently and at the same time did an excellent job defensively. Bornheim's counter-attacking opportunities were endless, but the Kickers defence was more alert in the second half and prevented them from conceding a fourth goal. Sho Sannomiya tried to put the lid on the game early in a duel in the 60th minute, but the Japanese player was unable to break through and Degerloch regained possession. Justin Ospelt's goal remained clean until the 66th minute, when David Braig scored the 1:3 equaliser after a flat pass in the penalty area. With the ball still on the goal line, Ospelt tried to punch it out, but Braig was quicker and converted the goal. Head coach Mustafa Ünal's team were more motivated after the restart and were more tenacious in tackles. In the final phase, the spectators in the PSD Bank Arena saw a constant back and forth and realised that the next goal from each team was more than important. Stuttgarter Kickers became more dangerous and created several chances to score, but the fans who had travelled with them did not see their team make a real impact on goal. The Frankfurt defence worked hard in their own penalty area and knocked all the balls forward. After four minutes of stoppage time, Haris Kresser finally brought the game to a close and FSV secured three very important points in the top-of-the-table clash against Stuttgarter Kickers on Sunday afternoon.
