Reunion after more than 50 years: FSV Frankfurt welcomes Villingen
Matchday 14: FC 08 Villingen
With eleven unbeaten league games in a row and six wins in a row, FSV Frankfurt are currently top of the table in the south-west regional football league and are now emerging as potential promotion candidates. Following their 3:2 away win at FC 08 Homburg, the Bornheim club will host FC 08 Villingen, who have been promoted from the Black Forest, next Saturday.
FC 08 Villingen are the reigning champions of the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg and were promoted to the fourth division this year. Villingen are at home in the Black Forest, more precisely in the MS Technologie Arena, which, according to their own information, is 760 metres above sea level, making it the highest football stadium in Germany. Villingen, who have won the South Baden State Cup eleven times to date, are currently coached by 69-year-old Reiner Scheu, who has only been in charge since 15 October. FSV Frankfurt have yet to win against Villingen; the last time the two teams played each other was in 1970 in the former Regionalliga Süd.
The Black & Whites picked up a point at Barockstadt Fulda on the first matchday of the new regional league season. It was only on matchday six that the Oberliga champions won at home against the second team of Frankfurt Eintracht and secured their first three points. However, the joy was short-lived, as the team from the Black Forest went on a long run after a 6-0 defeat at FC 08 Homburg and a 3-1 loss at TSV Steinbach Haiger, picking up just two points from six league games. In their last home game against Kickers Offenbach, Villingen surprised everyone and won their second game of the season 3-2 under the management of Reiner Scheu. FCV are currently in 15th place in the table, but the Black & Whites will have gained a lot of courage from the win against the promotion candidates from Offenbach and now want to upset the league leaders from Bornheim tomorrow, Saturday.
