Cup match in Alzenau: FSV Frankfurt takes on the Hessenliga leaders
Krombacher Hesse Cup round of 16: FC Bayern Alzenau
After the 3:0 home win against FC 08 Villingen, FSV Frankfurt will start the new regional cup season tomorrow, Tuesday. At 7 p.m., the leaders of the Regionalliga Südwest will face Hessenliga leaders FC Bayern Alzenau. With a win, the Bornheim team will advance to the quarter-finals and will then face either SC Willingen or FC Cleeberg. The Black & Blue last won the Hesse Cup in 2023 after a thrilling penalty shoot-out against TSV Steinbach Haiger. But Alzenau are also ambitious at the moment and are also aiming to reach the first main round of the DFB Cup.
FC Bayern Alzenau currently plays in the LOTTO Hessenliga and is fighting to return to the regional league this season. The Alzenau team last played in the fourth-highest division in 2021, but were then relegated to the fifth division. The club from Lower Franconia is currently top of the table. In the first round of the Krombacher-Hessenpokal, the Hessenliga club won 5:2 at FC Kalbach, while in the second round, Alzenau knocked league rivals Hanau 93 out of the competition on penalties. Now FCB will host head coach Tim Görner’s team, who are currently on an incredible unbeaten run in the league above them. Bayern Alzenau have been coached since 2022 by Angelo Barletta, who has a history as a player and coach on the Bornheimer Hang and also previously served as head coach of the Alzenau side from 2016 to 2019.
