FSV Frankfurt travels to FC Gießen
Matchday 15: FC Gießen
The first half of the current Regionalliga Südwest season is drawing to a close in the coming weeks. FSV Frankfurt extended their long unbeaten run in all of their October games and completed a golden October with their hard-fought run to the quarter-finals of the Hessen Cup against Bayern Alzenau last Tuesday. Next Saturday, Bornheim will host promoted FC Giessen in their first league game of November and have the opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the table with another win.
FC Giessen is the reigning champion of the LOTTO Hessenliga and was promoted to the fourth division again this year. The last time Giessen played in the regional league was in 2022. Giessen are coached by 42-year-old Michael Fink, who is also currently a player at FCG. The promoted team last played against FSV Frankfurt in July 2022, losing 1:6 at the Bornheimer Hang. The Central Hessians are at home in Gießen’s Waldstadion.
Gießen started the new season with a 1:0 away win at Bahlinger SC, followed by three draws in a row. It was only on matchday five that FCG lost 3-1 at Mainz 05 U23. The newly promoted side have now gone eight games in a row without a win, with their last victory in the current regional league season coming at the end of August at home to KSV Hessen Kassel with a 3-1 victory. After 14 matchdays, Gießen are in 14th place in the relegation zone and have so far collected twelve points.
