Hesse Cup quarter-final: FSV travels to Upland
Krombacher Hesse Cup quarter-final: SC Willingen
While FSV Frankfurt are currently battling for promotion in the Regionalliga Südwest, tomorrow, Wednesday, they travel to Ski-Club Willingen in Upland as part of the Krombacher Hesse Cup quarter-final. After the 5:1 victory in the Hessian duel against Barockstadt Fulda-Lehnerz, the second-placed team in the table wants to take the next step in the regional cup.
In the last cup match on October 29, 2024, the Black & Blues hosted Hesse league side Bayern Alzenau. FSV took an early lead in the round of 16 encounter through Cas Peters, but gave it back to Alzenau before the half-time whistle, who increased the lead to 1:3 in the course of the second half. Bornheim went one better in the closing stages, scoring the equalizer through Gwangin Lee (2:3), Lukas Gottwalt (3:3) and Tim Latteier (4:3) in stoppage time. Curiously, however, the club from Lower Franconia equalized in the final action to make it 4:4. In the end, the top-of-the-table duel went to a penalty shoot-out, in which FSV came out on top.
In tomorrow’s quarter-final match at SC Willingen, head coach Tim Görner’s team will face the leaders of the Kassel Group League. In the league, Willingen suffered their second defeat of the season in their last game, but are currently still top of the table with a 15-point lead. The Ski-Club prevailed in the first two rounds on penalties, and in the round of 16 the SCW won 3:0 against Verbandsliga side FC Cleeberg at their home stadium in Upland to become the only group league team to reach the quarter-finals.
