FSV loses hard-fought duel in Bahlingen
After FSV Frankfurt deservedly earned three points in the top-of-the-table clash against 1899 Hoffenheim U23s and tested themselves against the German U19 national team during the week, FSV now faced their next competitive match in the Regionalliga Südwest this Saturday. The Bornheim side played host to Bahlinger SC, who are currently under threat of relegation, at the Kaiserstuhlstadion. With a win, the Black & Blues could keep their grip on the top of the table.
FSV head coach Tim Görner rotated the starting line-up today due to several injuries in the team squad. Henry Bremer was in goal today for regular keeper Justin Ospelt, who is currently injured, while Timo Hildmann replaced Jan-Erik Eichhorn, who is out until the end of the season due to a torn muscle in his hamstring, in today's starting line-up. Lukas Gottwalt started again after his yellow card suspension. The home side started offensively and counterattacked towards the FSV goal. After a shot in the penalty area, Bremer caught the ball safely. Bornheim responded shortly afterwards with an attack and a cross from the left by Hildmann to Lucas Hermes. The latter tried to head the ball in, but Bahlingen goalkeeper Benedikt Grawe was quicker and grabbed the ball. Both teams played aggressively and gradually built up several counter-attacking situations. However, the Black & Blue lacked that certain something for a precise finish. In the 24th minute, a shot from FSV went over the goal of the red-clad home side. Just under ten minutes before the half-time whistle, BSC attacked again and, after a pass from Kolja Herrmann, scored the opening goal to make it 0:1 for Görner's team. Rico Wehrle headed into the left-hand corner of the goal from inside the visitors' penalty area, with Bremer having no chance. FSV were not deterred by the deficit and continued to try and set up the next counterattack. After a pass in the Bahlingen penalty area, the free-standing Timo Hildmann equalized the score at 1:1 in the 44th minute. Both teams went into half-time after 45 minutes with the score level.
Bornheim showed more commitment in the first few minutes of the second half and tried to take the lead, but were unsuccessful. On the contrary, Bahlingen scored their second goal of the game from a free-kick taken by Hasan Pepic after Bremer tried to clear the ball almost. The round object ended up with Vasco Walz, who slid into the open goal to make it 1-2. FSV defender Leonhard von Schroetter was injured in the collision with teammate Bremer and was replaced by Elias Breir in the 58th minute. BSC gradually took control of the game and went one better in the 69th minute. After a cross from the right, Holger Bux held out his outstretched leg and increased the score to 1:3 for the visitors. FSV Frankfurt were now under intense pressure and tried to turn the game around by any means necessary in the final phase. The duels and tempers flared on the pitch, players were treated for fouls and the match was interrupted several times. While the home side played for time, the Black & Blues brought the ball into the Bahlingen penalty area several times, but lacked a precise finish. In the six minutes of stoppage time, FSV were predominantly in and in front of the Kaiserstuhl team's penalty area and brought the ball into the penalty area several times. Sho Sannomiya, who had come on as a substitute, reduced the deficit to 2:3 in the third minute of stoppage time after a deflected shot from 17 meters. The Frankfurt side ultimately failed to score a third point and lost at relegation-threatened Sportclub Bahlingen on a sunny Saturday afternoon.
FSV Frankfurt lost 3-2 at Bahlinger SC in front of 841 spectators and slipped down one place. Next Saturday, March 15, the Black & Blues welcome Barockstadt Fulda-Lehnerz for the Hesse derby. Kick-off in the PSD Bank Arena is at 2pm.
