FSV Frankfurt loses the anniversary match against Eintracht Frankfurt
This Wednesday evening, FSV Frankfurt hosted Eintracht Frankfurt in their 125th anniversary match at the PSD Bank Arena. In front of 10,175 spectators, Eintracht board spokesman Axel Hellmann and FSV president Michael Görner exchanged a few nice words before the start of the game. As a gift, Hellmann presented Görner with a large picture with a list of the joint encounters between the traditional Frankfurt clubs.
The Bornheim defense already had a lot to do in the opening minutes of the match and defended vigorously against the dominant Eintracht. In the 26th minute, Tuta headed home the first goal in this city duel from a free-kick to give Eintracht the lead. A few minutes later, Omar Marmoush scored from a low cross to make it 0:2 for the Black & Blues. The Görner team, wearing their black and silver anniversary jerseys, attempted to score the equalizer in the 33rd minute after Jan-Erik Eichhorn crossed the ball into the Eintracht penalty area. However, FSV striker Lucas Hermes was too imprecise with the ball and headed over Kevin Trapp's goal. Shortly afterwards, Igor Matanovic increased the score to 0:3 and head coach Dino Toppmöller's team were in a frenzy, scoring five minutes before half-time with Nathaniel Brown to make it 0:4, which was also the score at half-time.
FSV got into the game better in the second half after a change of personnel. Although SGE pressed for a fifth goal, the Black & Blues improved over the course of the second half and scored the equalizer in the 59th minute through substitute Sho Sannomiya to make it 1:4. However, just five minutes later, Matanovic scored his brace in this city duel to make it 2:5. After the subsequent short break for a drink, not much more happened on the pitch. It was only in the 85th minute that substitute Hassan Mourad had the chance to score Bornheim's third goal, but the Eintracht defense cleared his shot for a corner. Three minutes later, the goalscorer Sannomiya was alone in front of SGE keeper Kevin Trapp, but hesitated in front of goal and thus lost the opportunity to score his brace. Referee Cristian Ballweg blew the whistle to end this thrilling and high-scoring city duel, which the Bundesliga side won in the end.
The Bornheim team will continue in the Regionalliga Südwest next Sunday, when they face SC Freiburg II at the Dreisamstadion. Kick-off is at 2 pm.
