Görner's team wins for the first time in this regional league season
Following the 5-0 defeat at Offenbacher Kickers, Görner's team traveled to Breisgau today (Sunday) to face SC Freiburg U23. After yesterday's Saturday games in the Regionalliga Südwest, Bornheim were bottom of the table with one point and a goal difference of minus five. The Black & Blues could therefore leave the bottom of the table with a win against Freiburg.
Tobias Peitz, Elias Breir and George Iorga were in today's starting eleven compared to the last league game against Kickers Offenbach. The home side got off to an attacking start and put Bornheim under pressure early on, with the visitors struggling to get the ball out of their own half. The style of play developed over the course of the opening quarter of an hour, with the Black & Blues playing rather defensively in the opening minutes and finding it difficult to get into the game, but gradually Görner's side began to show more confidence and launched several counter-attacks. In the 13th minute, Elias Breir sent the ball flat into the opposing penalty area from the left, FSV striker Cas Peters kept his foot down, but Freiburg goalkeeper Jaaso Jantunen made a reflex save and cleared for a corner. Head coach Benedetto Muzzicato's U23 team also made an effort to score the opening goal, but both the defenders and goalkeeper Henry Bremer stood compactly and together prevented the goal from being conceded. In the 27th minute, Hassan Mourad scored the opening goal with a finish into the left-hand corner of the goal after he failed to find a taker in an attack on the home side's goal and dribbled past an opponent. Breisgau were unimpressed by the deficit and pressed for a quick equalizer, while the South Hessians asserted themselves in duels and adapted to the momentum of the game. After 45 hard-fought minutes, referee Sahin Dündar whistled both teams into their dressing rooms for the 15-minute break.
At half-time, Tim Görner replaced goalscorer Mourad and brought on Lucas Hermes. The opening minutes of the second half got off to a similar start to the first half. Freiburg's U23s started on the offensive again and this time wanted to equalize as quickly as possible, but the Black & Blue's defence stood compact and goalkeeper Henry Bremer did not allow a ball into the box, including fending away all shots. As the duel progressed, Frankfurt dominated and the pressing continued to develop in the visitors' favour. In the final quarter of an hour, Peters pushed the ball behind the Breisgau goal line and extended the lead in the 75th minute. After neither Tim Latteier nor substitute Lucas Hermes were interrupted on the counter-attack, Hermes played the ball to Peters in the six-yard box, who had no problem converting from close range to make it 2-0 from Freiburg's perspective. By now, the 125-year-old traditional club was dominating the game and the home side hardly found any opportunities to score the equalizer. Sportclub Freiburg made an effort, but were unable to do anything about today's defeat. Due to a drink break and several treatments of some players such as George Iorga, who even had to be replaced by Birkan Celik, referee Dündar showed six minutes of stoppage time at the Dreisamstadion. Shortly before the final whistle, Celik finally sealed the deal and made it 3:0 after the new signing outplayed SC goalkeeper Jaaso Jantunen and found himself in front of an empty goal.
FSV Frankfurt deservedly won 3:0 at SC Freiburg II and are now eleventh in the table. Today's win is the first for the Black & Blues in this regional league season and also their first against Freiburg's U23s. FSV will continue on Saturday, August 17, with their second home game of the season: Bornheim will host SGV Freiburg on matchday 4, kicking off at 2 p.m. in the PSD Bank Arena.
