FSV loses at home against high pressing Homburg
The current season of the Southwest Regional Football League is in its final phase. On matchday 30, FSV Frankfurt welcomed FC 08 Homburg to the sunny PSD Bank Arena on Easter Saturday. Promotion is no longer an issue for FSV and although the focus is currently on the upcoming Hesse Cup semi-final against Wehen Wiesbaden, the Bornheim side wanted to pick up three points this Saturday to bring the season to a sensible conclusion.
FSV head coach Tim Görner made two changes to the starting eleven compared to the previous city duel against Eintracht Frankfurt's U21 team. Goalkeeper Henry Bremer replaced Justin Ospelt, who was absent today due to injury. Striker Cas Peters and Leonhard von Schroetter were also not in today's squad due to ailments. Among others, Hassan Mourad started from the beginning this time. Today's game on the Bornheimer Hang started dynamically on both sides, with both teams pressing from the outset. After the visitors' first opportunity, the home side launched a direct counter-attack that ended with Gwangin Lee scoring. However, the ball missed the goal. FSV were more attack-minded than FCH in the first ten minutes of the game, but soon handed over the offensive role to the Saarland side. In the 13th minute, the Green-Whites were awarded a free-kick, which was taken in front of the Black & Blue's left-hand penalty area line. Homburg's David Hummel tapped in from close range to give his side a 1-0 lead. Shortly afterwards, head coach Roland Seitz's team attacked again and almost went one up after Homburg's header went over the crossbar. The home team tried to build up play in the course of the first half, but the passes and passes were too imprecise, which meant that FCH quickly regained possession. After another Saarland counter-attack, Hummel netted a brace in the 28th minute to make it 2-0 from Görner's side. Homburg had not had enough and continued to press, FSV looked unsettled and further mistakes in build-up play and defending followed. Five minutes before the half-time break, Bornheim continued to push forward towards the visitors' penalty area, but the 1,297 spectators did not see them score a goal. With the Black & Blue trailing 2-0, both teams went into the half-time break after 45 eventful minutes.
The club from southern Hesse came back from the break with a triple substitution. Birkan Celik, Tobias Peitz and George Iorga came on for the second 45 minutes, replacing Lucas Hermes, Tim Latteier and Gwangin Lee. FSV came back from the half-time break with more momentum and launched several attacks. In the 51st minute, FCH goalkeeper Lukas Hoffmann came out of his box to intercept a ball from the home side. Shortly afterwards, Hassan Mourad hit the outside of the net after a shot in the visitors' penalty area. Around five minutes later, Homburg's Niclas Ansprach played the ball into the Black & Blue's penalty area, where it landed with Hummel, who scored his hat-trick from close range to make it 0:3. In the closing stages of the second half, the team from Bornheimer Hang looked for a gap at Homburg's opposite flank, but the visitors were compact and continued to press. FSV goalkeeper Henry Bremer cleared several subsequent shots from the away team, preventing further goals from the Green-Whites, for example in the 71st minute. Bremer also intercepted the ball two minutes later after a low finish from Niclas Jörg. Shortly before the end of the game, the round object landed in the hands of Manuel Kober, who shot at the Frankfurt box from a completely free position. Bremer also made a great save in this action. Iorga tried to score a consolation goal for the hosts, but the ball landed safely in Hoffmann's hands after a harmless finish. After 90 minutes of play, the match was over at the PSD Bank Arena and referee Fabian Reuter blew the final whistle. FSV Frankfurt lost today's clash against FC 08 Homburg 3-0 and have now gone six league games in a row without a win. The Bornheim side have picked up just one point during this period.
Next Friday, April 25, the Black & Blues will travel to the Black Forest to face relegated FC 08 Villingen. Kick-off in the MS Technologie Arena is at 7 pm. Among other things, this clash will serve as a dress rehearsal for the upcoming Hesse Cup semi-final against third-division side Wehen Wiesbaden on the evening after next, Tuesday, April 29.
