FSV concedes a late goal and loses the Main derby
FSV Frankfurt's 2:1 away defeat at TSV Steinbach Haiger was followed by the main derby against Offenbacher Kickers this Sunday afternoon. After 18 games played in the Regionalliga Südwest, Bornheim were second in the table, while Kickers were third with two points less. With a win, the Black & Blues could extend the gap to the Red & Whites and close the gap on current league leaders Hoffenheim II.
n comparison to the previous Steinbach game, Birkan Celik, Tobias Peitz and Leonhard von Schroetter played from the start. Goalkeeper Cas Peters was missing from today's top-of-the-table clash due to yellow card suspension. Both teams pressed right from the start, with OFC counter-attacking in the tenth minute and Boubacar Barry almost scoring the opening goal from a low cross, but the striker fired over the FSV goal. A short time later, Barry crossed into the sixteen, Ron Berlinski jumped the highest of all and headed past the right-hand post. Görner's team took control of the game over the course of the first half and gradually built up the momentum. In the 16th minute, Celik found himself alone in front of Kickers keeper Johannes Brinkies in the OFC penalty area, but an opponent cleared the ball out of the danger zone at the last second. A good ten minutes later, Frankfurt counter-attacked towards Offenbach's goal again. Gwangin Lee received the ball in the opposition penalty area, turned 180 degrees and shot across Brinkies' box. The Kickers came back in the meantime, looked for the gap and often shot too imprecisely, so that there was no further danger for FSV for the time being. Shortly before the half-time whistle, Lee went down in the OFC penalty area and had to leave the pitch for the time being after a minute-long stoppage, but came back on a little later and continued. After two minutes of stoppage time, both teams went into the dressing rooms goalless.
Bornheim started on the offensive immediately after the restart and missed five minutes later through Lukas Gottwalt, who was unmarked in the opposing penalty area after a free-kick and missed well. In front of 7,313 spectators in the PSD Bank Arena, the Black & Blues were committed and put pressure on Neidhart's side, who had produced little in the second half. There were only a few situations where OFC found themselves in the home side's penalty area. Tempers flared on the pitch from the 60th minute onwards, with referee Martin Wilke repeatedly showing yellow cards to players on both sides. In the final phase, Barry, who had already been cautioned, fouled Timo Hildmann, who had been substituted in the meantime, and was spared by the referee, much to the surprise of the Bornheim players. OFC took advantage of this interruption and immediately substituted the striker. A short time later, the visitors were awarded a penalty after a foul in the Frankfurt penalty area. Referee Wilke did not hesitate for long and immediately pointed to the penalty spot. OFC captain Marc Wachs converted the spot kick into the shallow left corner. Ospelt opted for the other side and was unable to prevent Offenbach's late lead. A short time later, substitute Nicolas Loebus headed just wide of the right-hand post and almost scored the equalizer. The Main derby came to an end after five minutes of stoppage time. As the stronger team in the match, FSV was unlucky to lose 1-0 to Offenbacher Kickers after conceding a penalty in the closing stages.
The Black & Blue thus lose at home for the first time this season. Next Saturday, 07.12.2024, Bornheim will welcome the U23s of SC Freiburg for the last home game of 2024. Kick-off is at 2 p.m. in the PSD Bank Arena.
