Matchday 4: SGV Freiberg Football
Following FSV Frankfurt’s 3:0 away win against SC Freiburg U21 last Sunday, Görner’s team will welcome SGV Freiberg Fußball for their second home game of the season tomorrow (Saturday).
The soccer section of the Freiberg sports and choral club has been playing in the Regionalliga Südwest since the 2022/23 season. The Swabians finished their debut season in 22/23 in 14th place in the table. Last season, the blue and white Swabians finished in fourth place. The Swabians won 17 games last season, with a further eight draws and nine defeats.
59-year-old Roland Seitz has been head coach at the sports and singing club since January 2023. He has a positive record against FSV Frankfurt, having met the traditional Bornheim club three times with the Freibergers and picking up a total of five points with his team in two draws and one win. The last meeting between the two teams in Freiberg ended in a goalless draw. Cas Peters missed a penalty kick in the match.
Freiberg started the new regional league season with a 2-2 draw against newly promoted Göppinger SV. A week later, the Swabians defeated TSV Steinbach Haiger 2-0 and held Kickers Offenbach to a draw. With five points, Freiberg currently occupy fifth place in the south-west table. Last week, the team from Neckar advanced to the round of 16 in the Württemberg State Cup, also known as the WFV Cup, after beating SpVgg Gröningen-Satteldorf.
During the summer break, the Black & Blue’s upcoming opponents welcomed 18 new players, with just as many players leaving the club at the end of the season. Among others, Hilal El-Helwe from the Lebanese League and Dennis Owusu from SG Barockstadt Fulda-Lehnerz moved to Baden-Württemberg. Top performer Filimon Gerezgiher, on the other hand, left the club to join SV Elversberg.
