FSV wants to break Freiberg's streak
Matchday 21: SGV Freiberg
FSV Frankfurt started their first Regionalliga match of 2025 with a 1:0 work victory. Thanks to the three points gained in the catch-up match, the Bornheim side took second place in the table. Next Saturday, head coach Tim Görner’s team will travel to SGV Freiberg in the Ludwigsburg district. With a win, FSV can still sniff first place in the table.
On matchday four, the South Hessians welcomed the team from Neckar to Bornheimer Hang. After a goalless first half, the home side conceded a goal through Gal Grobelnik in the 57th minute to make it 0:1. FSV were stronger offensively in the closing stages and scored the equalizer through Cas Peters in the 76th minute to make it 1:1. The home fans would certainly have been satisfied with a point, but Görner’s team did not let up. Gwangin Lee scored the winning goal in the final minute of stoppage time with a fine finish to make it 2-1. The Black & Blues kept three points at home in the PSD Bank Arena, and from then on FSV would not lose in the next twelve league games.
SGV Freiberg started the new regional league season with a 2:2 draw against Göppinger SV. In the course of the first round games, the Freibergers did not collect too many points and were in the basement of the table for a while. From the twelfth matchday, with the 1:0 home win against Hessen Kassel, the Blue-Whites started a run and have now been unbeaten in nine league games in a row. SGV won 2-0 at Kickers Offenbach in their last encounter. The Neckar side, coached by Kushtrim Lushtaku since 01/01/2025, currently occupy fifth place in the table and can move up one place with a win on Saturday. The Freiberg side have strengthened their squad during the winter break with Leon Petö (FC 08 Homburg), Dion Berisha (Rot-Weiß Essen) and Mike Manegold (most recently without a club). However, Ji-han Lee (Hwaseong FC), Simon Klostermann (TSG Balingen), Giuliano Greco (TSG Backnang) and Dennis Owusu (Banik Ostrau) left the club.
