Matchday 18: TSV Steinbach Haiger

FSV Frankfurt’s long run of 14 consecutive unbeaten league matches came to an end last Saturday with a 1-0 defeat at 1. Göppinger SV. At the end of the first half of the season, the Bornheim club slipped from the top of the table to second place in the Regionalliga Südwest. Instead, the autumn championship went to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim U23. Next Saturday, 23 November, the Black & Blues will travel to TSV Steinbach Haiger for the first second-round match of the 2024/2025 season.

TSV Steinbach Haiger kicked off the current season away to Görner’s team and were held to a 1-1 draw. Despite taking a 1-0 lead, which Steinbach’s Serkan Firat scored in the 30th minute, the Frankfurt side managed to equalise shortly before the final whistle through Malik Memisevic, who hammered the ball into the Steinbach goal in the 88th minute. After a heated stoppage time, the season opener ended in a 1-1 draw for both teams.

After the opening game in Frankfurt, Steinbach got off to a slow start in the current regional league season. On matchday five, TSV managed to pick up their first three points with a 1:0 away win at SG Barockstadt Fulda-Lehnerz. Following the 5-1 defeat at Stuttgarter Kickers, head coach Hüsni Tahiri’s side extended their unbeaten run to eight league games in a row. After 17 games, Steinbach are sixth in the table and eight points clear of FSV Frankfurt. After the recent 1:0 home win against Kickers Offenbach, Tahiri’s team is expecting the second-placed team with a broad chest.
