FSV Frankfurt now unbeaten for eight league games in a row!
After last weekend's last-minute win at Stuttgarter Kickers, FSV Frankfurt hosted the U23 team of 1.FSV Mainz 05 at home in the PSD Bank Arena this Saturday afternoon. Before kick-off, the Bornheim side had been unbeaten in seven consecutive league games, were in third place in the table and could go top of the table in the South-West Regional Football League with a home win, at least for today.
Compared to the last Stuttgart game, Timo Hildmann, Sho Sannomiya and Leonhard von Schroetter started from the beginning. Both teams felt their way forward in the opening minutes, with both sides struggling to build up play. In the 14th minute, Giorgio Del Vecchio shot at Mainz 05 keeper Maximilian Kinzig, who quickly threw himself to the ground to intercept the ball. Lucas Hermes scored a good five minutes later, but was ruled offside, meaning the score was still goalless after 20 minutes. The U23s put the Bornheim defense under pressure and goalkeeper Justin Ospelt also had to clear several corner kicks from the U23s. Shortly before the break, the Black & Blue came back into the game. After a short corner kick, Tim Latteier played the ball flat into the Mainz penalty area, but an opponent was alert and grabbed the ball, preventing a possible goal. After an even first half, referee Lukas Heim whistled for half-time. The game picked up pace in the second half, with Görner's team acting more courageously. In the 51st minute, Hermes played the ball to Cas Peters in the penalty area, who was free in front of the Mainz goal, but his shot was blocked by an opponent. A short time later, FSV attempted several counter-attacks, but the shots were too imprecise, which is why the game remained goalless. Mainz's youngsters showed signs of life, but mostly failed to find a taker for crosses into the Frankfurt penalty area. In the 66th minute, Tim Latteier played the ball to Cas Peters from a free-kick, who ran into the top corner and converted the opening goal to make it 1:0. FSV dominated most of the final 20 minutes and had a few chances to extend their lead, but failed to capitalize on them. Ten minutes before the end of the game, Peters, who scored the goal, shot at the Mainz goal from outside the five-meter area and ultimately only hit the crossbar. In stoppage time, Mainz substitute Julian Derstroff failed to beat FSV keeper Justin Ospelt to prevent the equalizer at the last moment. After four minutes of stoppage time, referee Heim blew the final whistle and FSV Frankfurt remained unbeaten.
FSV Frankfurt won 1:0 against 1.FSV Mainz 05 II and are now in first place in the table, at least for this Saturday. The Black & Blues are now unbeaten in eight consecutive league games. The Bornheim team will continue next Saturday, 05.10.2024, in an away match against KSV Hessen Kassel. Kick-off is at 2 p.m. at the Auestadion in Kassel.
