FSV Frankfurt unbeaten for nine league games in a row!
FSV Frankfurt traveled to northern Hesse this Saturday to face KSV Hessen Kassel. Head coach Tim Görner's team has now been unbeaten for eight matchdays in a row. This streak was to be continued in today's derby match. With a win, the Bornheim team could take the lead in the table, at least for one night.
Compared to the last match against 1.FSV Mainz 05 II, Jan-Erik Eichhorn and FSV captain Tim Weißmann played from the start. The Black & Blues started intensively and drove the ball into the KSV penalty area immediately after kick-off. Frankfurt launched several good counter-attacks but failed to make the most of their chances. KSV Hessen Kassel also started offensively and got off to the better start in the Hesse derby. Bornheim goalkeeper Justin Ospelt intervened in the opening minutes and cleared Kassel's shot out for a corner. In the 17th minute, FSV attacked up front again, Lucas Hermes made his way into the opposing penalty area and played the ball to the free-standing Sho Sannomiya, who shot at goal from very close range. Kassel goalkeeper Franz Langhoff positioned himself wide and prevented Bornheim from taking the lead. The tackles became rougher as the first half progressed, the game was interrupted several times and two of the hosts' players had to be treated by the team doctor. KSV built the game up over the course of the match and launched several counter-attacks. Although there were no dangerous goalscoring opportunities, the Kassel Lions did manage to win corners. In the final minutes of the first half, both Hessen Kassel and FSV took a free-kick, but there was no danger from either side, meaning the two teams went into half-time goalless after three minutes of stoppage time.
Görner's team came back more courageously after the 15-minute break and scored shortly after the restart in the 48th minute after a corner to take a 1:0 lead with a header from Lucas Hermes. The hosts did not let the deficit affect them and pressed rapidly for the equalizer. However, the Black & Blue's defenders, including goalkeeper Justin Ospelt, stood firm and compact and prevented the Lions from conceding a goal. In the 80th minute, Hermes was alone in front of Langhoff after a pass and tried to close the gap with a low finish, but the ball was cleared out of the danger zone by an opponent before the goal line. Five minutes later, Kenny Weyh stumbled on the ball, whereupon Hassan Mourad, who had been substituted in the meantime, and Cas Peters marched towards the Kassel goal. However, Mourad took too long to clear the ball or even shoot at the box himself, allowing KSV to regain possession. The club from Northern Hesse also tried hard in the final phase, but were unable to find the gap to equalize. In the last action of today's match, a free kick was awarded to Hessen Kassel from a distance of around 20 meters after a foul by Cas Peters. The ball went over the crossbar after the finish, resulting in a goal kick for FSV. Referee Roy Dingler blew the final whistle after stoppage time, with the Bornheim side claiming a working victory in front of a crowd of just under 2,200 on Saturday afternoon.
FSV Frankfurt won 1:0 against KSV Hessen Kassel and are now in first place in the table, at least for this Saturday.
