FSV Frankfurt now unbeaten for seven games in a row!
FSV Frankfurt have now gone six games in a row unbeaten thanks to last weekend's 3-1 home win against Eintracht Trier. This Saturday, the Bornheim side extended their unbeaten run by preventing another defeat. However, the Black & Blues traveled to the GAZi Stadium on the Waldau to face Stuttgarter Kickers, who were one place ahead of FSV in the regional league table before kick-off. The encounter took place at eye level, so to speak.
In today's clash between the two traditional clubs, Justin Ospelt was back in goal for FSV Frankfurt after a long break due to injury and recovery. Right from the start, the 4,680 spectators at Stuttgart's GAZi Stadium on the Waldau saw an intense duel, with both teams going toe-to-toe. FSV started offensively in the opening minutes, but did not create any dangerous goalscoring opportunities. In the 15th minute, David Kammerbauer had the chance to take the lead, but shot just wide of the right-hand post. Stuttgarter Kickers, who were celebrating their 125th anniversary today, dominated the game in the first half and created several chances to score. However, several shots missed the target or FSV keeper Ospelt saved or intercepted the ball safely. The game became more heated in the final phase of the first half, with the FSV defense again preventing Ospelt from conceding the first goal and being more determined in tackles. After two minutes of stoppage time, both teams went into the half-time break goalless. There were no substitutions on either side at half-time. SVK continued to go on the offensive and launched several counter-attacks, but the Black & Blue's defense stood compactly as in the first half and prevented anything worse. In the course of the second half, the duel was more even, FSV played more courageously, but in the final phase it looked as if the Kickers would keep three points at the Waldau on their anniversary. Substitute Gwangin Lee, who had only been on the pitch for ten minutes at the time, was shown a straight red card by referee Niclas Zemke in the 70th minute after the Bornheim man was reflexively carried away by Per Lockl's shirt pulling and left the pitch with a straight red. FSV had no other choice and were forced to play the final 20 minutes plus stoppage time short-handed. Shortly before stoppage time, in the 89th minute, Frankfurt countered again. Sho Sannomiya and Hassan Mourad marched towards the home penalty area, the latter crossed the ball to Sannomiya, who first shot at Kickers goalkeeper Felix Dornebusch from close range in the penalty area and then scored at the second attempt to give the home side a 1-0 lead. Ospelt was a reliable back-up for his team-mates throughout the 90 minutes today and prevented the equalizer in the final action by clearing the ball out of the penalty area after a corner from the home side. Although it didn't look like it for a long time, Görner's eleven finally won today's duel in Degerloch after five minutes of stoppage time, thus spoiling Kickers Stuttgart's 125th birthday celebrations.
FSV Frankfurt won 1:0 against strong Stuttgarter Kickers and are now in second place in the Regionalliga Südwest, level on points with current leaders Kickers Offenbach. The Black & Blues have thus been unbeaten in seven consecutive league games. The Bornheim side continue their unbeaten run next Saturday, 28.09.2024, at home against the U23s of 1.FSV Mainz 05. Kick-off is at 2 p.m. in the PSD Bank Arena.
