Peters to the power of three: FSV wins clearly and remains top of the table
With eleven unbeaten league games in a row and six wins in a row, FSV Frankfurt are currently top of the table in the south-west regional football league and are now emerging as potential promotion candidates. Following their 3:2 away win at FC 08 Homburg, the Bornheim-based club will host FC 08 Villingen, the newly promoted team from the Black Forest, this Saturday afternoon. With a win against the reigning champions of the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg, the Black & Blues could defend their lead in the table and extend their unbeaten streak.
FSV head coach Tim Görner started Timo Hildmann and Elias Breir from the beginning compared to the Homburg game. Jan-Erik Eichhorn and Ben-Luca Fisher were both suspended due to yellow cards. Bornheim lived up to their role as league leaders right from the start and pressed for Villingen's goal from the first minute of the game. Head coach Adam Adamos' visiting team did not concede much in defence at first and the home side found it difficult to find a gap in the Villingen defence to get into the penalty area. The team from the Black Forest kept the score level for almost 20 minutes until FSV striker Cas Peters was brought down for a foul in the visitors' penalty area and referee Naemi Breier consequently pointed to the spot. The Dutchman, who was fouled, converted the penalty himself into the bottom left-hand corner shortly afterwards. After taking the lead, Görner's team continued to attack and put the Black & Whites' defence under constant pressure. Despite this, FC Villingen slowly made their way towards Bornheim's penalty area over the course of the first half, but ultimately lacked a precise and dangerous finish. Peters increased the lead to 2:0 in the 34th minute after he scored his brace from very close range after a rebound from visiting goalkeeper Kevin Ehmann, who fended off a header from Lucas Hermes with his hands. The Black & Blues dominated the first half and, after two minutes of stoppage time, went into half-time with a two-goal difference.
FSV continued to attack at the start of the second half. Less than 30 seconds after the restart, the Hessians counter-attacked on Villingen's goal. Peters scored his third goal in the 46th minute after a pass from Hermes to give the home side a 3:0 lead. The Black Forest side showed a sign of life shortly afterwards with a shot off the post, which kept the ball in play, but Bornheim quickly regained possession. The football club shifted down a gear in the course of the second half and took care not to concede a goal. In the closing stages, Adamos' side came back into the Black & Blue's penalty area, but their finishing did not improve, meaning the danger was averted relatively quickly. FSV goalkeeper Ospelt did not have to make much of an effort to keep a clean sheet either. The 1,525 spectators in the sunny PSD Bank Arena saw a number of brief interruptions to the game as players from both the home and away teams were injured in tackles, but most of them continued to play after brief treatment. FSV went on the attack again in the 90th minute, with substitute Mourad receiving the ball in the Villingen penalty area after a misplaced pass from an opponent and taking a shot. However, Ehmann positioned himself wide to prevent the fourth goal. After four minutes of stoppage time, referee Breier blew the final whistle and the Hessians secured another well-deserved three points on the Bornheimer Hang.
FSV Frankfurt won 3-0 against FC 08 Villingen this Saturday thanks to a hat-trick from Cas Peters and thus continue to defend their lead at the top of the table in the Regionalliga Südwest. The Black & Blues continue to extend their incredible run, have now been unbeaten for twelve games in a row and recorded their seventh consecutive must-win. Next Tuesday, 29 October, the Bornheim side will continue their run in the Krombacher-Hessenpokal. Görner's team will travel to FC Bayern Alzenau, with the round of 16 clash against the current leaders of the Hessenliga kicking off at 7 p.m. at the Alzenau Municipal Sports Centre. The following Saturday, 2 November, FSV will face FC Giessen in the 15th matchday of the Regionalliga Südwest. Kick-off is at 2 p.m. at the Waldstadion in Giessen.
