FSV wins catch-up match and takes second place in the table!
The wait was over. The home match against SC Freiburg II, which was canceled on December 7, was made up for this Sunday afternoon at the PSD Bank Arena in front of 1,809 spectators. FSV were in third place in the table before kick-off and could move past Kickers Offenbach into second place with a win.
Today's starting line-up included Tobias Peitz, Timo Hildmann and Tim Latteier. The latter took an early 1:0 lead after just five minutes following a pass from Leonhard von Schroetter. In the opening quarter of an hour, Bornheim were committed on the offensive and attempted several counter-attacks, but failed to extend their lead. The visitors from Breisgau built themselves up over the course of the first half and dared to counterattack towards FSV's goal. In the 25th minute, Freiburg's Franci Bouebari tried to score the equalizer with a long-range shot, but FSV keeper Justin Ospelt safely intercepted the ball. After just over half an hour, SC II were well in the game and dominated the final quarter of an hour, which is why the black-and-blue defense cleared and saved several times. Shortly before the end of the half, the South Hessians countered again and found themselves predominantly in the visitors' penalty area. After a handball by the visitors, referee Luca Schiliró did not hesitate for long and immediately pointed to the penalty spot. FSV goalscorer Cas Peters took the ball and shot into the bottom left-hand corner. However, SC goalkeeper Jaaso Jantunen had the right instinct, quickly flung himself into the left corner and saved for a corner. FSV thus squandered their chance to extend their lead and went into half-time with a 1:0 lead.
SC Freiburg continued to dominate in the second half, but the home team also continued to play with commitment and hung on for the second goal. In the 55th minute, Gwangin Lee received the ball in the visitors' penalty area, took a shot in front of the five-yard line and missed the target. A similar situation a little later, with Lee shooting at goal from the same distance, but the visitors' keeper made a swift save. As the second half progressed, the game became more heated and was interrupted from time to time as players from both sides went to ground after tackles and received treatment. Freiburg's Erik Wiklöf shot at the home goal in the 69th minute, but Ospelt remained calm in this scene too and prevented the equalizer. The Breisgau team remained dangerous shortly afterwards and tried precise crosses, but the FSV defense kept a cool head and quickly averted the danger. Head coach Bernhard Weis' team were also not precise enough with their passing and finishing. In the closing stages, the red-clad visitors almost scored the equalizer after a cross from the right was headed into the arms of Ospelt, who once again prevented a late equalizer. After four minutes of stoppage time, the catch-up match on the Bornheimer Hang ended with a working victory for the home side.
FSV Frankfurt ultimately deserved to win 1:0 in a hard-fought match against SC Freiburg U23, giving the Bornheim side their first win of the second half of the season. The Black & Blue will continue next Saturday, February 22, at SGV Freiberg. Kick-off is at 2 p.m. in the Wasen Stadium.
