FSV Frankfurt wins city duel and defends table lead!
FSV Frankfurt are on a strong run in the current Regionalliga Südwest season. The Bornheim side have now gone nine games in a row without defeat. This Saturday afternoon, the Black & Blues hosted Eintracht Frankfurt U21 for a city derby. With a win, FSV could move past Kickers Offenbach and defend their lead at the top of the table.
FSV head coach Tim Görner started Gwangin Lee from the beginning compared to the last match at KSV Hessen Kassel. The city duel was on an equal footing right from the start, with both teams going on the offensive early and playing with focus. Bornheim gradually created several chances, but were unable to find the gap in the visitors' penalty area. Within the first ten minutes, Eintracht striker Moses Otuali shot over Justin Ospelt's goal from a good position in the FSV penalty area. Lucas Hermes narrowly missed the target a little later after a pass from Lukas Gottwalt. Both Frankfurt teams were well in the game, Leonhard von Schroetter outplayed two opponents and hammered the ball at goal, but the ball went past the post. SGE became more dangerous as time went on, as the 2,885 spectators in the cloudy PSD Bank Arena noticed, as the Black & Blue's defense worked hard to prevent them from conceding a goal. After a corner kick, Hermes, who was completely free in the Adler penalty area, scored the opening goal for FSV Frankfurt in the 32nd minute. Head coach Dennis Schmitt's visitors recovered a little later and responded a good five minutes later. In the 38th minute, Marcel Wenig tried from a good 20 meters, but the ball went just past the left goalpost. With one minute played in stoppage time, referee Fabian Reuter whistled for half-time.
Eintracht U21 made their second substitution at the break. In the 18th minute, Schmitt brought on Dominik Crljenec for Max Hauswirth, while Jaden Korzynietz came on for Louis Kolbe in the second half. Bornheim dominated the game in the first quarter of an hour of the second half, with corner kicks repeatedly finding their way dangerously into the U21s' penalty area. The opposition improved as the game progressed and the fans who had traveled with them waited for the equalizer. However, FSV increased the lead to 2:0 in the 63rd minute after Eintracht goalkeeper Yurij Obert was awarded a penalty. Cas Peters, who was fouled by the keeper, converted into the left corner to increase the lead. Less than five minutes later, Peters again went down in a running duel in the SGE penalty area and referee Reuter again pointed to the spot. This time, Tim Latteier was on the penalty spot, took the ball and scored to make it 3:0. The lead seemed to have decided the city duel, but Paul Wünsch, who had been substituted in the meantime, scored the final goal to make it 1:3 after grabbing the ball from Ospelt. Eintracht “Zwo” tried hard in the final phase to take at least one point, but Bornheim defended well and even put the SGE defence under pressure in a few situations. After three minutes of stoppage time, the hard-fought city derby ended with a home win for the Black & Blues.
FSV Frankfurt won today's city duel against Eintracht Frankfurt's reserves 3:1 and thus defended their lead at the top of the table. The Bornheim side are now unbeaten in ten consecutive league games, including their fifth win in a row. FSV will travel to FC 08 Homburg in the Saarland next Friday, October 18. Kick-off is at 7 p.m. at Homburg's Waldstadion.
