FSV Frankfurt picks up a point and extends its streak
After last Saturday's 1-1 draw against Bahlinger SC, FSV Frankfurt took on SG Barockstadt Fulda-Lehnerz at the Johannisau stadium this Saturday afternoon. The Black & Blues were unbeaten in four games at the time and could extend their unbeaten run today with a win or a draw.
Compared to the Bahlingen game, Tim Latteier was in today's starting eleven for Elias Breir. Breir and new signing Filip Pandza were initially on the bench. Bornheim started offensively in the opening minutes and put Fulda under pressure early on. Ben-Luca Fisher shot at the hosts' goal as early as the 2nd minute, but the ball was deflected wide of the goal. SG Barockstadt looked nervous under new head coach Daniyel Cimen and were a little unsure defensively, while the Frankfurt side dominated the game. After a good 25 minutes of play, there was a brief drinks break at the Johannisau stadium, after which Fulda came back more courageously and went on the offensive. FSV now did more defensive work and defended well, with Tim Latteier clearing a potential finish after a cross from the home side in the 29th minute. In the closing stages of the first half, FSV goalkeeper Henry Bremer blocked a shot from Nils Fischer and cleared for a corner. The Görner team did not get much going in front just before the break, despite good build-up play and fluid passing. Before the half-time whistle, Barockstadt wanted to go for it again, found themselves in the visitors' penalty area and pushed for the opening goal. However, the Black & Blue's defense continued to watch out and prevented them from scoring in the first half. Both teams went into the half-time break goalless.
FSV head coach Tim Görner substituted Tim Latteier for Elias Breir at half-time. Less than five minutes had passed in the second half and Cimen's team were already attacking Frankfurt's goal. After a corner kick in the 49th minute, Barockstadt captain Patrick Schaaf headed the goal for the home side to make it 0:1 from Bornheim's perspective. The South Hessians tried to score the equalizer as quickly as possible, but SGB dominated the game and initially did not let anything go wrong in defence. The game became more heated as the second half progressed, with both teams getting into fiercer tackles. After another drinks break, Görner's team came back more determined from the 70th minute onwards and started to attack again. A short time later, Birkan Celik shot at the hosts' goal, but Fulda goalkeeper Samuel Zapico cleared for a corner kick. Redemption came for FSV in the 79th minute after Cas Peters took advantage of Fulda's disarray in the home penalty area and slotted the ball in from close range to equalize. The Black & Blues were back on track and on level terms with their opponents from Lehnerz. Shortly before the end, the away team, along with their fans, held their breath as substitute Kelvin Onuigwe and Matheus De Moura Beal launched a counter-attack and marched towards Bremer's goal. Onuigwe's shot was parried by Bremer, but the ball ended up with De Moura, who tried to score the winning goal while lying down, but Weissmann prevented him from doing so at the last moment. After five minutes of stoppage time, Hofheinz blew the whistle to end the East Hesse-South Hesse duel.
FSV Frankfurt drew 1-1 with SG Barockstadt Fulda-Lehnerz and secured a hard-fought point. The Bornheim side are now unbeaten in five games. The Black & Blues continue next Saturday, September 14, with a home match against Eintracht Trier, kick-off is at 2 pm. The FSV Family Day will also take place on the PSD Bank Arena grounds on the same day. More information will follow.
