Der FSV gewinnt gegen Trier und bleibt weiter ungeschlagen
FSV Frankfurt hosted Eintracht Trier this Saturday. With a win, the Bornheim side could climb to third place and establish themselves in the top flight. The promoted team from Trier wanted to underline their good start to the season and would have left Bornheim behind them in the table with a win.
Frankfurt head coach Tim Görner relied on the same starting XI that was on the pitch against SG Barockstadt in Fulda last week. Iorga and Lee, who were missing last week, were also included in the squad but initially sat on the bench. Both teams looked to attack from the outset and tried to stop their opponents' build-up play early on. A misplaced pass by FSV in their own penalty area led to an early lead for Bornheim: Weißmann played the ball out of his own penalty area to Trier's Buballa, whose cross ended up in a roundabout way with Tim Latteier, who played a long pass to Cas Peters, who outplayed the Trier defence. Peters then passed the ball directly to Lucas Hermes, who left Simon Maurer unmarked with a hook and fired the ball into the far corner from the edge of the penalty area. The ball found its way into the goal from the inside of the post and it was 1:0 in favour of the football club after three minutes. Trier were unimpressed by the early deficit and tried to build up their game, but FSV stood well in defence and repeatedly created good chances through their quick transition play, such as in the twelfth minute when Trier goalkeeper Radomir Novakovic defused a shot from Celik from around 16 metres. A minute later, it was again the rushing Trier keeper who kept his team in the game at the last second ahead of Lucas Hermes. Three minutes later, Novakovic was already beaten, but the post saved Trier from going 2-0 down and again it was Lucas Hermes with a remarkable individual effort. It's old footballing wisdom: if you don't score goals up front, you will be punished at the back. And that's what happened in the 18th minute when the Bornheim defence failed to clear a cross. The ball ended up with Mirko Schuster, who shot straight from around 19 metres out, giving Henry Bremer in the Bornheim goal no chance. Eintracht Trier now became stronger and tried to press early, while FSV lacked the attacking drive of the opening period and mostly created scoring chances from set pieces. However, no more goals were to be scored in the first half.
The second half initially presented the same picture: Eintracht tried to put FSV under pressure in their own half, FSV mostly freed themselves playfully, but even now, goalmouth chances were rare, and when it became dangerous in front of both goals, it was mostly through set-pieces. Nevertheless, the 2,500 spectators watched an entertaining regional league match. And they saw Lucas Hermes give Bornheim the lead again: Set up by Ben-Luca Fisher with a great pass from his own half, Hermes penetrated into the Trier penalty area on the right-hand side, whose low cross into the back of the defence was deflected into the goal by Maurice Wrusch. The corner taken by Giorgio Del Vecchio landed right on the head of Lukas Gottwalt and from there into the Trier goal. After 72 minutes, it was 2:1 in favour of the Black & Blues. FSV were not satisfied with the lead and pressed for the next goal, which was to come five minutes later: After a throw-in for Trier deep in their own half, Peters interfered when receiving the ball, the ball landed centrally via Del Vecchio and Loebus to Sannomiya and Latteier, the latter saw Herms, who had run in and was free in the penalty area, served him with a fine pass and Hermes' hard shot could no longer evade Garnier and so the ball bounced off the Trier captain into the Eintracht goal again for a 3:1 lead for FSV Frankfurt. Even though Trier once again tried everything to avert the impending defeat, the FSV defence could no longer be overcome in the remaining minutes of the match and the Bornheim team deserved to leave the pitch as winners. With this victory, Bornheim extended their unbeaten streak to six games. The Bornheim team climbed to third place in the Regionalliga Südwest table.
Next Saturday, 21 September 2024, FSV Frankfurt will play a top-of-the-table match when they face second-placed SV Kickers Stuttgart. Kick-off at the Gazi Stadium on the Wedau is at 2 pm. FSV's next home match will be on Saturday, 28 September, when the PSD Bank Arena will host the U21s of 1. FSV Mainz 05.
